Picadilly Circus

Two weeks ago I bought a family pack of tickets to the Picadilly Circus. It's a relatively small circus that comes to the Dulles Town Center every year - I'd wanted to go last year, but we thought the kids were too young - figured we'd give it a shot this year!

Waiting to get in, I thought I'd snap a shot of the big top.
Our package included pizza for the family - here's my family enjoying it!
The view inside the tent. This was the actual lighting - pretty cool!

The loudly stated at the beginning of the show that photo and video were not allowed, so I put away my camera. However, people were taking photos all over the place with no adverse effects, so I took out my iPhone and snagged a few photos during the first act. Here is the ringmaster with 6 camels. They did a few tricks, changing directions around the circle, turning in circles, and then lying down all together. Nothing too exciting, but the kids were definitely fascinated!

The acrobats were really cool. I managed to get this shot - the guy standing on the ladder has the pole balanced on his shoulders/head; the girl on top climbed up and then did her hand stand. Amazing!
During the intermission, we took the kids outside to see the animals. Prices were a bit ridiculous, but we did pay for Natalie to do one of the pony rides. Despite her face in the photo below, she really enjoyed it! We did think about doing an elephant ride together (even at $12 each), but the line got a little long and then it was time to go inside. Maybe next year!
The second act had more clowns, acrobats, jugglers, and zebras. At this point, I pulled out my real camera, as everyone was taking photos by then. The big finale were the elephants, and I'm really glad I had my camera with me to photograph them. I think the elephants were the hit of the night; not just with us, but with everyone (I'm sure the hot blonde elephant trainer didn't hurt!). I have some really great photos of them, but I'm posting them over on my photography blog, so click here to see those if you'd like.
